The Sarcastic Mariner welcomes contributions from maritime professionals who want to share real-world experiences, insights, and commentary on the industry.

Who Can Contribute

We welcome submissions from current and former seafarers, marine officers, maritime managers, port professionals, and others with direct, hands-on experience in the industry. We are not a platform for PR agencies, corporate communications, or promotional content.

What We Publish

We publish honest, experience-based articles that reflect the realities of maritime life and work. This includes operational stories, commentary on industry culture, safety observations, management challenges, and general maritime life.

Editorial Standards

All submissions are reviewed editorially. We reserve the right to edit for clarity, length, grammar, and house style. We will not substantially alter the meaning or intent of your submission without your knowledge. If significant edits are needed, we will discuss them with you before publishing.

What We Don’t Publish

  • Content that is promotional or commercially motivated
  • Anonymous submissions (contributors must be identifiable to the editors, even if published under a pen name)
  • Content that breaches confidentiality obligations to employers
  • Content that could expose individuals or companies to legal action without a strong editorial justification
  • Previously published material without clear disclosure

Attribution & Credit

You will be credited with a byline and short author bio. You may include a link to your LinkedIn profile or personal website. Your name and credentials remain your own — we are publishing your voice, not claiming ownership of it.

Rights

By submitting to The Sarcastic Mariner, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to publish, promote, and archive your work on our website and associated social channels. You retain copyright in your work. We will not sell or syndicate your work to third parties without your permission.
